Aircraft
the early aircraft were light weight & made of fabric & wires. the AIRCRAFT'S had a horsepower of 80-120. the top speeds of the aircraft were 100 mph or less. 1916 was the first war aircraft called aeg c.iv. at first aircraft were to determine the ENEMY'S movements & positions. then both sides began to drop bombs on enemy locations.
rifles
the rifle was a common weapon. when major powers entered they had 11 million rifles. rifles were 125 to 130 CENTiMETERS long, but shorter rifles were 110 centimeters. the rifle was the primary weapon for combat. the unique features of the rifle was a wide scale, ability to be used by a single person, was portable, and reliability.
Mortar
the mortar was used to dislodge enemies from the trenches. the mortar was invented by baron menno van coehoorn. the first mortar fired an exploding shell, which had a fuse lit by the hot gases when fired. the british army was the first to use mortar. the mortar was even waterproof.
DISEASE
over 20 million died in the war from diseases. some types are shell shock, TUBERCULOSIS, venereal disease, heart DISEASE, diabetes, malaria, influenza, typhoid & typhus fever, trench foot, and trench fever. 75,000 died in the british army from trench foot alone & 2,000 from the u.s. over one million died trench fever. 40 to 80 percent died of typhoid & typhus. all these diseases killed more than half of all soldiers in world war one.
The Flamethrower
the flamethrower was first made by the germans. it was used in the early phases of the war. the primary objective of the flamethrower is to spread fire by launching burning fuel. FLAMMENWERFER was one of the EARLIEST models, made by richard fiedler. he tested two different kinds of FLAMMENWERFER.
